The song; it’s the first piece of a three piece suite which opens my solo album. I’m not really sure yet if it is the final version but it’s close. For me it’s kind of like a sunrise on another world, kind of an impressionistic piece, with all kinds of things slowly coming to life or waking up.

As for myself; I’m an award winning film composer from The Netherlands who has been composing for films since 2004. I’ve composed music for over 70 films not to mention commercials, documentaries and other projects. One of my best-known works is “Embrace Life”, the seatbelt commercial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-8PBx7isoM) and recently won the YouTube Ad of the Year award. BpOlar is son of a jazz musician and as such he was raised from a very young age listening to the jazz masters, and although his approach diverted from this it is part of his background and as such is part of his aproach to the berlin electronic music scene. Desolatus by Desolo Sub Humus

Song Description: The first 10 tracks in the set/album are actually the story of Persephone, Queen of the Underworld. I started off with Desolatus as the opening scene. I figured the listener likely would have heard of the story in Greek and Roman mythology, so I started after the agreement was made in which Persephone (Proserpina in Roman mythology) would spend half the year in the Underworld and would return to the land of the living for the other half of the year.

Desolatus, which means ‘forsaken’ or ‘lonely’, starts the song cycle off with Proserpina wasting away, alone, and sitting on the shore of a subterranean river.

The following tracks follow her journey across the lake, up a long damp passageway out of the cavern and into the light. She walks the earth for a time, but because of the agreement, she ends up returning through the passageway , across the River Styx and returns to her throne as Queen. Before Desolatus begins again, her throne disappears as if it had all been a dream, and Proserpina again returns to the shore of the underground river. Life, death, and rebirth.

Desolo Sub Humus, or ‘Abandoned Under Ground’, creates ambient soundscapes using recorded sounds, instruments ranging from piano and wood flute to sitar, and electronically generated sounds, such as drones.

Desolo Sub Humus released its first album, Regina Proserpina, in 2010 and has since released a second album, Grupta, in 2011. Desolo Sub Humus is currently working on a new album, tentatively titled Saturnalia, to be released early in 2011.”

About the track:

I had been very fascinated with the idea of getting a photograph and trying to reflect the feeling that it gave me into some sort of song or ambient soundscape. So after getting a few photos off Flickr and looking at them for a while, I made a song that was about 14 minutes long. The most interesting part though, was the ending. So I took the last few minutes and made it into its own song which I’m particularly happy with.

About myself:

I’ve always been into really abstract art and things like that, so my music is a way for me to express ideas and feelings I have in a more personal fashion, without getting too into detail about what I’m feeling. That way it’s less about me and more about the listener’s interpretation.

Deadwater Horizon by Eko Fist

Bio-

Some years ago I was given a copy of a well known virtual studio application, which I would play about with for about an hour and then forget about.

Earlier on this year I was experimenting with guitar loops and came across some demos on my computer from 2004.

I took these demos, inserted guitar loops and generally re-processed them and suddenly I ‘got’ the idea of virtual synths and signal processing.

I play guitar for a hard rock band, and Eko_Fisk is the complete anti-thesis of this.

About the Song

The original demo for this was from June 2004, but I remixed it, and following the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico in April, it suddenly gained a context.

It would appear that we are prepared to sacrifice everything in the mindless pursuit of wealth. Oil, and therefore money is more important than anything else on the planet. (Rant over).

Sloar Winds (EXCERPT) by Shane Morris

US multi-instrumentalist, Shane Morris carves atmospheric poly-rhythms and ethereal soundscapes in the ambient / tribal / electronic domains. Inspired by trance-inducing rhythms, deep textural harmonies, and the juxtapositions of the natural and urban worlds, Morris’ music is a dynamic sojourn through textural sound-fields that glide across dark glacial valleys and soar along transforming hyper-groove peaks.

Morris’ compositions are a balance of both structured and improvised explorations that evolve rhythmically and harmonically through a continual immersive mix. Shane’s sound comes from a blend of analog and digital synthesizers, acoustic and electronic percussion, winds, samplers, field recordings, and effects processing.

An avid live musician and improviser, Shane hosts a live performance net radio program called Atmosphera at both electro-music.com and stillstream.com.

Track: Soft Like Leaves Falling

This track was made in the first days of Autumn. The change in seasons is always wonderful, each with it’s own characteristics and it’s own sounds. Obviously, Autumn is the season of wind and leaves falling and I wanted to capture this feeling, and at the same time the gentle nostalgia that spreads everywhere. So I thought about what I loved to do when I was a kid and I immediately thought about leaves being crushed under my feet, and that jump started the whole idea for this track. Hope you connect to it in your own way.

This track is also part of a collection of tracks from my latest idea which is inviting listeners to participate in the making of my new album Opaque Glitter.

Belgium based Ambient-outfit of Gert De Meester, who is also known as knob twiddler of The Mental Attack and 2??. In 2007 Gert started to experiment more with ambient. He was asked to make the soundtrack of a commercial for the brand “Kinto”. At the same time he began to make an ambient album, because the genre drew his attention more. He renamed himself “Distant Fires Burning” just to state the difference with the more beat-oriented work by “The Mental Attack”. In 2008 he self-released the CD “Messierobjekten” as “Distant Fires Burning”. In 2009 he released the CDR “7 Sisters” and on April 14 2010, U-Cover Records releases the third album by Distant Fires Burning, “Build on Me”, on it’s sub label U-Cover CDR Limited.

About Merope:

Often called the Lost Pleiad in Astronomy and Mythology. In Astronomy Merope is the faintest of the Pleiades (7 Sisters) In Mythology she was the only one to Marry a mortal  when she was transformed to a star by Zeus people say she hid her face out of shame. This is my interpretation of the myth!

5. Not Today by Straightman

Straightman – been recording for just over 2 decades now. Strive to get a unique sound, tend to shun straight forward clean synths, and midi. Alot of my work is sample based, and I tend to play stuff live and sample it off for manipulation which I hope gives a warmer, organica, almost vintage sound. I want my stuff to sound a bit dreamlike and sub aquatic – I put most of the blame for this on my Father who played Tangerine Dream’s Rubycon and Pheadre to death in the seventies, when I was but a toddler. Those records are a huge influence on me, and I’ve been trying to capture that feel ever since really. It’s a lot about nostalgia, dreams and altered states.

Not Today – I tried to make this sound a bit vintage, so there’s a bit of genuine tape saturation in there, and subtle use of leslie cabinet which gives it a nice shimmering effect. There’s even backwards guitar in there which I guess is almost 60′s psychedelic!

6. Veil of the Moon by Alpha Wave Movement

Veil of the Moon was composed for the first Alpha Wave Movement release “Transcendence” back in 1995. This particular track was 100% improvised direct to DAT using only two synthesizers. I’m not sure what influenced the track but upon reviewing the music I envisioned a serene landscaped draped in the silhouette of a full moon hence the name.
